Pearl Days was released in 2004 and sees the American production by Glen Ballard, who won several Grammy Awards and has produced albums by Alanis Morissette, Anastacia, Dave Matthews Band, Katy Perry, Josh Groban, Aerosmith, No Doubt, Christina Aguilera, etc.

The collaboration between Elisa and Glen Ballard started in the spring of 2004. After almost eight months of work in the studios of Aerowave in Los Angeles on October 15th the album debuted in Italian music stores. It contains ten songs, mostly rockoriented, letting Elisa show the most outgoing part of herself. It also includes beautiful ballads such as 'The Waves' and 'Life Goes On'. The tune that would launch 'Pearl Days' was 'Together'.

Glen Ballard says of Elisa: «In our first encounter, I was certainly struck by the fact that Elisa was simply a real and authentic artist. In a very loud and and fast culture, we need real artists to kind of express the things that we don’t necessarily have time to even talk about. All great artists do what they have to do and then they accept the consequences of that. And I always felt that Elisa was completely prepared to accept the consequences of expressing herself. Most of these consequences are quite positive».

The team of musicians accompanying Elisa in this project is remarkable. Participating are Matt Chamberlain (drums, percussion), Sean Hurley, Lance Morrison and Jimmy Johnson (bass), Tim Pierce and Michael Landau (guitars), Benmont Tench (organ and piano), Randy Kerber (piano and keyboards), Jez Colin (programming), Suzie Katayama (strings), Michael Richards and Josefina Vergara (violin), Andrew Duckless (viola), Paula Hochhalter and Maurice Grants (cello), and Don Ferrone (bass). Elisa herself and Glen Ballard participate as musicians, one on the piano and keyboards, the other on the guitars and keyboards.

The album was recorded in the U.S. by William Malina and Scott Campbell at the Henson Studios in Hollywood (CA). The songs 'Joy' and 'Written in Your Eyes' are signed and four hands were written by Elisa and Glen Ballard.

The booklet consists of 12 different cards with images of Elisa (each one can be used as a cover) and in the first release the reverse side of the disc is yellow or orange.

A second edition of the album was released in 2005 with the addition of the track 'Una Poesia Anche Per Te', the Italian version of the ballad 'Life Goes On'.
